The Fairlawn hotel of Kolkata has received several awards for outstanding performance. Perhaps built in 1783, this building has passed through many hands and have accommodated many of Britain's contemporary Earls, Viscounts, Barons and once called The Canada House during the 2nd World war when it was requisitioned for Canadian Air Force personnel. Acquired by present owners Mr and Mrs Smith in 1936, it is an old world charm family run hotel.
